Denbigh Association

Denbigh Association (Parent & Teachers Association)

Parents, grandparents and carers automatically become members of the Denbigh Association when their Son/Daughter joins Denbigh School.
Our main purpose is to provide a link between the school community and to raise money to assist in the funding of projects to improve the school facilities and equipment for the students that is not financed by the government such as; Library improvements to provide extra working areas & books, football goals, table tennis tables, donations for school productions, covered bike sheds, Activity Day Hardship Fund (to allow all students to participate in Activity Days they may not otherwise be able to afford), and entering into Dance & Technology competitions to name just a few.
With the support of the Teachers, the Denbigh Association holds two fundraising events every year.  Our main event is the Xmas Bazaar in December, in the past, we have held a May Quiz Night, and this year we held a Ceilidh Country Dance Evening which was great fun.

We Always Need New Volunteers
Being a part of the Denbigh Association does not need to take up lots of your time.  There are two levels of commitment and support you can give – becoming a Committee Member or becoming a Parent Volunteer.  Whichever you choose is completely up to you.

1. Committee Members
Becoming a Committee Member with voting rights, requires you to turn up regularly to the one hour monthly meetings and offer a good level of support when it comes to preparing for our two fundraising events, and if you available, helping at the event too.  We would also ask you to support us a few times a year when new parents are welcomed into the school, to spread the Denbigh Association word and let people know what we do.
We currently have 10 very friendly, regular committee members, but we are always looking for new faces with fresh ideas and offers of support.
As a Committee Member, you will work along side the other committee members, the Chair, Treasurer & Secretary, offering suggestions and help, and you would have full voting rights regarding how the raised funds are allocated.
If you wish to become a Committee Member, you will need to attend the AGM held in October (dates to be confirmed) to be voted in.  We can have a maximum of 14 Committee Members.
If you have your sights a little higher i.e. the Chair role, Vice Chair, Treasurer or Secretary, then becoming a Committee Member first is a good introduction to how things are currently run, ready for you to take on the role in a future year.

2. Parent Volunteer
If you are unable to commit to the monthly meetings or to the level of support explained above, but still want to help occasionally, then a gentler introduction to the Denbigh Association is becoming a Parent Volunteer.  We would add your name to our Parent Volunteers email list and you will be contacted when we are holding a fundraising event, to request help preparing for the event in the upcoming weeks, or at the actual event itself.  There is no pressure:  If you are able to help, it would be very much appreciated, but if you are not, then maybe you will be able to help at the next event. We would also be in touch when we hold the Xmas Bazaar, asking for donations for our Tombola Stall and the Raffle.  If you are able to donate then fantastic – every item helps us raise more for the children.  Just attending the Fundraising event is a great way of showing your support too.
You are also welcome to attend any of the Committee Meetings, however, you will not be allowed to vote unless you become a full Committee Member.
You would also be sent the Minutes of each monthly meeting to keep you informed of the upcoming events and how we are spending the money on the children.

Becoming a Parent Volunteer is a gentle introduction for those of you who cannot commit to giving the time, but want to show your support to the school and be involved in raising funds for the children.

We hope that you will be involved in one of the ways mentioned above.  We need as many parents as possible to make the Denbigh Association work well.
If you wish to know more about the Denbigh Association, or wish to add your name to the Parent Volunteers list, then please email Phil Myers myersp@denbigh.net with your request/enquiry and we will be in touch.
