Using this Web Site & Credits

Introduction

Welcome to the new face of Denbigh Online, our face to the world at large who might be curious about what Denbigh School has to offer.

Using this web site

This new version of our web site was designed for monitors with a resoltion that is no less than 1024 x 768 pixels (the default resolution for our school desktops).

In terms of testing, we have focused solely on using Mozilla's Firefox web browser and Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 and 8.

We are not supporting IE 6 so, if you are still using this old and out-dated browser, you may find the site does not look and work as well as it should. We would also recommend you upgrade your browser using the links on the right of this page. If you're a real devotee of IE6 then please take a moment to read this or this.

The Date & Time feature at the top of the page and our Search feature, which is powered by Google's Custom Search code, both use JavaScript. You can keep your Java up to date by using the links on the right of the page.

NOTE: If you are using the Firefox browser then you will need to install their own plug-ins for Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, Adobe Shockwave, Windows Media Player, Java, etc. You can find the link to download & install these on the right side of this page.

Credits

Firstly, I'd like to thank J Whiles for double-checking my work, testing & adding some new & funky features to this site, some of which are already present and some of which will be appearing over the next few days & weeks.

I would also like to thank those students, parents & members of staff who made comments about our websites and whose ideas I have incorporated into the thinking behind this redesign to make this new website even better.

In terms of what I had to try and understand before I could make this site, I found the following links very helpful:

  • css.maxdesign.com.au
  • This site helped me create the original navigation system for the site and the Icon Links that appear throughout. Maxdesign was also useful in helping to understand the FLOAT CSS property.

  • Another site that was very useful in terms of understanding CSS Lists and navigation systems.

  • I used this site a few times to understand how the HTML and CSS code worked together; interestingly, this site lets you experiment with the code and lets you see the results

  • HTMLdog.com
  • Excellent site which tells you everything you need to know about HTML and CSS, starting at Beginners & taking you through to Advanced

  • Activeden.net
  • For the new Gallery and the penultimate version of our navigation system, we used some of the resources from this site (which you will need to pay for) to add a little WOW! to the site.

  • A very useful site chock-full of resources to add a little glamour to your websites. We used DropLineTabs to make the two-level horizontal menu that this site now uses.

  • A very technical site, that made my head hurt a little at times, but useful nonethless for when the nity really gets gritty.

  • While not especially helpful in constructing this site, does give you a good demonstration of why CSS is the only way to style.

Denbigh 2010 was made using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and CS4, Adobe Flash CS3 and CS4,
