Admission
Policy & Parental Rights:
You have a right to say which school you
prefer, but you do not have the right to choose a school place.
For example, Denbigh School has an admission number of 200. If 500 parents
apply for a place as the preferred choice for their child, it is clearly necessary
to apply the oversubscription criteria for entry shown below.
When the School is oversubscribed, the places are allocated based on the ‘oversubscription
criteria’.
Parental
preference for a particular school:
The Courts have ruled that an admission authority must first consider only
those who have chosen the School as a preference.
If you do not express
a preference by the deadline date, you may go to the back of the queue and risk
not being allocated a place in one of your preferred schools.
If there are any special reasons why you want a place in a particular school
for your child, you should indicate them on the application form and provide
independent professional advice in support of any exceptional and extenuating
circumstances.

Parental Right to an Independent Appeal
Where parents are not offered their preferred place for their child, they
can appeal against this decision via the Independent Appeals Panel. Details of
how to appeal against an admissions decision will be provided by the Local Authority
in writing if your application has been unsuccessful.
