Extra-Curricular activities @ Denbigh
Denbigh School runs a variety of extra curricular activities.

Students have the opportunity to visit the School’s residential centre
at Longrigg in Cumbria, where there is a full range of outdoor pursuits.

place at lunchtime or after school, include

- There are also coursework clinic sessions to assist with study across a wide
range of subjects.

School has also competed in the annual Rock Challenge, a national
schools Dance competition.

School Sports Teams & Clubs:
Over 500 students represented the School in a variety of sports last year.
The
School has teams representing the different age groups in

- Sailing
- Squash
- Tennis
- American Football.
Most of the inter-school matches are ‘friendlies’, but we also
compete in county and nationally organised events.
The School also enters
Milton Keynes Schools tournaments throughout the year.
Students who make
progress in a sport through commitment are able to gain Full and Half Colour
awards as they progress through the School.

Sailing:
the Denbigh School Sailing club takes place on Friday after school between
3.30-6pm at Caldecote Lake during the Autumn and Spring Terms.
students are transported via mini bus to the Caldecote Sailing centre.
Wetsuit and life jackets are supplied by the sailing centre.
Supervision and safety by RYA qualified instructors.
Students learn to sail in Picos, Feva's & Lasers(boat types) and the
eventual aim is for students to compete in Milton Keynes sailing competitions and
some students eventually compete in the National schools competitions.

Longrigg Residential:
Students also have the opportunity to visit the School’s residential
centre at Longrigg in Cumbria, where there is a full range of outdoor pursuits.

Educational Visits:
The Modern Languages Faculty has developed a programme of regular student
exchange visits with schools in France, Germany and Spain.
There
are also opportunities for sixth-formers to do work experience in Germany and
France.
The Design and Art Faculty offers a range of museum and gallery visits as
part of GCSE and Advanced level courses.
GCSE students also enjoy a trip
to Kew Gardens.
The Performing Arts Faculty offers a range of theatre visits as part of KS3,
KS4 and KS5.
It offers a two day KS4 residential to London’s West
End, including two shows and workshops at the world famous Pineapple Studios.
Year
9 students attend the Music Live Exhibition at the NEC in November.
The English and Media Faculty organises visits to the theatre, conferences
and workshops for GCSE and Advanced level English Language & Literature,
English Literature and Media Studies students.
The Science Faculty offers Key Stage 3 trips to the Think Tank Science Museum
and to Whipsnade Zoo.
Students also have opportunities for individual fieldwork,
a residential field visit for sixth formers to Arran, as well as visits to the
Open University and to local industry.
The Humanities Faculty organises visits to historical conferences as part
of the Advanced Level History courses and Geography fieldwork visits.
The Business Studies and IT Faculty organises visits for GCSE and A level
students to major manufacturing companies.
VCE Business students undertake
two week work experience placements which are relevant to their assignments.
Sixth Form Mathematics students have the opportunity of attending the Mathematics
Christmas lecture at the Open University.
The Football Academy organises visits to Premier League Football Clubs and
other sporting venues.

the Student Voice at Denbigh:
The development of the “student voice” at Denbigh is key if we
are to continually raise the achievement of all our students.
A range of
initiatives throughout the School aim to create a dialogue between students,
staff and Governors to enable students to have a real impact on teaching and
learning.
These include “Students as Learning Partners”, peer
support initiatives, including peer mentoring, and students taking part in staff
appointment panels.
There is a Student Affairs Governors’ Committee which students attend
with Governors.
Over the past year students have worked with staff on the
new structure to the School day and contributed to the Healthy Schools Working
Group.
A Student Council with representatives from all Year Groups also
meets regularly with “satellite“ groups set up to look at specific
issues / activities around the School.

6th
Form: Engineering Award:
Sixth Form students have the opportunity to complete the Gold Crest Engineering
Award which involves students spending time at “NiftyLift” (Hydraulic
equipment supplier) and Hertfordshire University.

Milton
Keynes Mathematics Challenge
All Year 8 students have the opportunity to take part in the MK Mathematics
Challenge with some students going on to be entered in the UK Mathematics Challenge.
