It is our belief that students’ academic study should be supplemented with a wide range of extra curricular activities, with the aim of helping them develop into well rounded citizens. Opportunity abounds at Denbigh.
Denbigh has a reputation for sporting excellence and opportunity across Milton Keynes and beyond. 85% of our students regularly take part in extra curricular sporting activities and over 600 students represented the School in a variety of sports last year. In 2008 – 2009, our teams won or drew 80% of the 348 matches they took part in, earning Denbigh the School Sports Achiever of the Year Award from MK Sports Council. Our sporting commitment is also recognised by Sport England through our Activemark Award.
Our students consistently achieve at national, regional and county levels. This year our Under 14 Boys Badminton Team was crowned National Schools Badminton Champions and our Under 18 Boys Football Team reached the quarter finals of English Schools Football Championships. Six of our students currently represent England in their sporting fields and a further twenty one are nationally or regionally ranked.
Our students can choose from over 40 out of school clubs and activities. Performing arts is a particular strength.
Students have many opportunities to take part in extra curricular Dance, Drama and Music activities, including:
Students can also take part in the many inter-house competitions, events and sporting fixtures which are put on at lunchtime or after school.
Our students regularly compete with much success in Milton Keynes and regional competitions including:
Our students can visit the School’s residential centre at Longrigg in Cumbria for a full range of outdoor pursuits and participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
We also run two activities days, held each year in June, during which students are off timetable and take part in a range of fun activities in Milton Keynes and beyond.
Our commitment to the educational and social benefits for students on offer by taking part in educational visits has not been diminished by the ever growing bureaucracy involved with such trips. 60 individual day trips and 11 residential visits took place last year, including European exchanges, theatre and museum visits, science field trips and visits to successful companies. Two of the highlights were the School’s first World Challenge trip to Malaysia and our first ever Skiing Trip, both of which were very successful.
