You have a right to say which schools you prefer, but you do not have the right to choose a school place. If you do not express a preference by the deadline date, you may go to the back of the queue and risk not being allocated a place in one of your preferred schools.
If there are any special reasons why you want a place in a particular school for your child, you should indicate them on the common application form and provide independent professional advice in support of any exceptional and extenuating circumstances.
Where parents are not offered their preferred place for their child, they can appeal against this decision via the Independent Appeals Panel. Details of how to appeal against an admissions decision will be provided by the Local Authority in writing if your application has been unsuccessful.
