Business & I.C.T.

  • Head of Faculty: Mr M Russell

The ICT & Business faculty comprises the subjects of I.C.T. & Computing along with Business Studies, Economics & Accountancy.

Members of the faculty also contribute to running after school clubs to help develop I.C.T. skills & confidence as well as helping students to complete projects & coursework.

The faculty has also been successful in the Cranfield Business Challenge in recent years.

I.C.T.

Students encounter Information and Communication Technology (ICT) both as a discrete course and integrated with activities across the curriculum.

The discrete course follows the National Strategy for ICT. This helps students develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of ICT.

The aim of the course is to ensure that, by the end of the Key Stage 3, all students can use ICT securely, creatively and independently in a range of contexts.

It includes, but is much broader than, a set of technical competences in common software applications.

At Key Stage 4 students can opt to study ICT either on a GCSE course or the OCR National in ICT course.

The OCR course for ICT is equivalent to one GCSE.

Business Studies

In Business Studies two courses are offered. In each course students study four main functional areas:

  • marketing
  • finance
  • people in organisations and production
  • the impact of the Government on business decisions

The focus for the Business GCSE is on decision making within a business context and it is a modular course.

The focus of the OCR GCSE is on investigating business activity and consequently there is more coursework.
