Our Sixth Form

Denbigh has a successful, thriving Post 16 provision of approximately 470 students, which combines the very highest academic standards with a wide range of enrichment and sporting activities.

Our Post 16 students consistently record examination results above the national average and 75% of our students achieve university places each year, including at Oxford and Cambridge and the prestigious Russell Group universities.

Students can choose a programme of study to suit their needs from our varied curriculum, containing around 30 Level 3 courses.

Students also benefit from a range of enrichment options including: Extended Project, Young Enterprise, Community Sports Leaders Award and Russian, Turkish and Italian.

Our Post 16 facilities provide students with a specialised learning environment. They have their own dedicated Learning Centre, which includes a common room, social working space and ICT suite.

Year 12 and Year 13 students are encouraged to play a leadership role in the wider life of the School and to support the School’s younger students. We expect our students to be role models.
We have a thriving Post 16 Committee which organises charity and social events, leads on developing Post 16 policies and procedures and contributes to the development of teaching and learning of students across the school.

Structures and Mentoring

The Sixth Form is headed up by the Director of Post 16 and there are also two Heads of Year for both Year 12 and 13.

All Year 12 and 13 students also have a Mentor who will work closely with them throughout the year. There are weekly mentoring sessions to ensure that all Post 16 students' needs are met. We also have a counsellor for students requiring additional support.

Students can talk to a careers officer to discuss Post 16 career options and to support/organise work experiences.

We offer students a flexible and varied curriculum which allows students to select a programme of study that meets their needs.

Students need to be aware that there is tiered entrance criteria for Year 12.

We offer a programme of support for students who are making applications for the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities. We organise mock interviews with University professors and arrange work shadowing and work experiences in students chosen fields.

We ensure that the students are well prepared for additional university admissions examinations that they may be required to take for example BMAT, LNAT, UKCAT and STEP.
