School Community comes together to celebrate Diwali

Our Sixth Form Diwali Celebration was a huge success bringing students, their families, staff and Governors together to celebrate the traditional ‘Festival of Lights’.   There was delicious food provided by Sattvic Foods and spectacular dance and music performances by our very own Sixth form students telling the story of Diwali. One of the highlights of the evening was the lamp lighting ceremony during which we lit the traditional oil lamp known as a Samay.

Our special guests on the Evening were Cllr James Lancaster, Mayor of Milton Keynes; Laxman Kastala BEM, the founder of DREAMSAI, a local Hindu Charity and the Deputy Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Melanie Beck MBE.

The Event was organised superbly by the students themselves through the Sixth Form Committee with the help of Mrs Conway, our Diversity Co-ordinator.  They helped to make this a truly special community celebration.

Ms Beck said about the Event: ‘It was a truly memorable evening, full of joy and fun.  Denbigh’s staff and students should feel very proud of their approach to diversity and inclusion. I’d like to give thanks to the Sixth form Band and all the performers, but in particular the Sixth Form Committee for orchestrating and presenting the Event.’
