Outstanding young scientist wins Andy Squires Award
Ryan Sohal, an outstanding young scientist, who has just completed Year 13, is this year’s winner of the ‘Andy Squires Science Award’. The Award is given in memory of the Denbigh Alliance Trust CEO and former Headteacher of Denbigh, Andy Squires who was passionate about the teaching of Science and inspired so many students over the years. The Award is given in his name to a student who has demonstrated enthusiasm and excellence in Science.
Ryan received his award at our recent Celebration of Success Ceremony from our special guest, Denbigh alumni, Dr Gayatri Vijapurkar, who was herself an outstanding young scientist here and is now a doctor at MK University Hospital.
The Award recognises that Ryan has demonstrated huge dedication and self-motivation in his science studies. He showed himself to be an inquisitive scientist with a passion for learning. He was also a great support to his fellow students and was always willing to help others in their learning. Ryan’s chosen A Level subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths was a demanding combination, but his hard work paid off when he achieved A*s in all four subjects – a quite remarkable achievement!
He is now taking a gap year before continuing his studies but is still taking the time to assist students and staff in our Science Faculty. Ryan is truly a worthy winner of this special Award.
