Talented Sixth Form Scientist wins Andy Squires Science Award
Matthew McKenna, a talented and dedicated young scientist, who has just completed Year 13, is the 2025 winner of the ‘Andy Squires Science Award’. The Award is given in memory of the former Alliance Schools Trust CEO and Headteacher of Denbigh, Andy Squires who was passionate about the teaching of Science and inspired so many students over the years. The Award is given in his name to a student who has demonstrated enthusiasm and excellence in Science. Matthew, a truly worthy winner of this Award received it at our recent Celebration of Success Ceremony.

In his time at Denbigh, Matthew has showed talent, dedication and self-motivation in his science studies. He is a talented scientist with a true dedication to learning. He is also a very personable individual who has been an absolute please to teach. The Science Faculty was delighted for Matthew when he achieved A*s in Biology and Chemistry – a fantastic achievement. Matthew has showed outstanding resilience and strength of character to overcome challenges that he has faced to achieve these outstanding grades. We are very proud of him and everyone in the Science Faculty and at Denbigh wishes him all the very best for the future.
