Spring Enrichment Day offers opportunity for all

Our Spring Term Enrichment Day provided opportunity for all. Students in Years 7 to 10 came off timetable to learn about aspects of life and community beyond the traditional curriculum and Year 11 and Year 13 students took part in ‘Power Days’ with sessions to prepare them for their forthcoming GCSEs and A Levels. Six exciting trips went out with visits to Warwick Castle, Woburn Safari Park, The Centre for Computer History, Kempston Outdoor Centre, Kew Gardens and Silverstone.

There were also a range of in-school experiences on offer. Year 7 students tested their entrepreneurial skills in the Junior Apprentice Challenge, won by Team ‘Takeaway’. Year 8 students took part in sessions aimed at increasing their awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Year 9 students spent the day discussing careers with presentations from Red Bull Racing, The Army, The Department for Work and Pensions and Worktree.

The focus for Year 10 students was life skills with sessions on First Aid with the West Hertfordshire Ambulance service; Self Defence with KMDT; Enterprise with alumni students Jade Cheshire and Emma McQuade and Budgeting with alumni student Connor Roche.

Our Year 11 students had a ‘power day’ when they could focus on their GCSE coursework. There was also a Macbeth Workshop led by the Rabble Theatre and an assembly for the whole year group with Tana Macpherson-Smith, author of the book ‘There’s a Monkey on my shoulder’, as a support mechanism for students in the lead up to their GCSEs. Year 13 students also had an assembly with Tana to help them prepare for their A Levels and then spent the day in focused revision sessions.

Mr Burgess, Assistant Headteacher who organised the day said: ‘Enrichment days are a really positive experience for both students and staff. We are grateful to our staff who go the extra mile to facilitate these experiences and to our alumni students who come back to school to help our students develop vital life skills. We are already looking forward to the final enrichment day which will take place in July.’
